Matthew Trexler | Following Jesus | June 5, 2022

Matthew 5:41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.

The 2nd mile is the mile that means the most in life.

1.) The 2nd mile is the mile of progress.

James 4:17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

2.) The 2nd mile is the mile of participation.

Matthew 18:21-22 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

3.) The 2nd mile is the mile of perseverance.

Luke 11:5-8 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ 7 And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.

4.) The 2nd mile is the mile that pays off.

Genesis 24:17-20 The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.”

18 “Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.

19 After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.” 20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels.

The mile that means the most ended in glorious payoff!

What area of your life do you need to give to the 2nd mile where you need to see progress?

Where in your life do you need to participate in the 2nd mile?

Where do you need to practice some perseverance?
