Matthew Trexler  . “Promise of His Presence” . December 11, 2022

Matthew 1:22-23 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means “God with us”).

Psalm 84:5-6 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

Handle The Valley

  • Inevitable
  • Unpredictable
  • Impartial
  • Temporary
  • Provides a place of growth

“In the valley we see the depths the heart of God.”

Psalm 84:7 They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion.

“Saved by his power, but also sustained by it.”

1.) Find our strength in God.

whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.

    through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

Colossians 1:11 (NCV) God will strengthen you with his own great power so that you will not give up when troubles come, but you will be patient.

Matthew 28:20 And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Psalm 46:7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

“When there is no way out there is a way through it.”

2.) Fix your faith in God.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

3.) Follow the peace of God.

Psalm 23:4-6 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
