2 Kings 18:5-8 (CSB)
Hezekiah relied on the Lord God of Israel; not one of the kings of Judah was like him, either before him or after him. He remained faithful to the Lord and did not turn from following him but kept the commands the Lord had commanded Moses. The Lord was with him, and wherever he went he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him. He defeated the Philistines as far as Gaza and its borders, from watch tower to fortified city.
Hezekiah knew that a fresh encounter with God and a restored relationship with Him would ignite the nation.
2 Kings 18:4 (CSB)
He removed the high places, shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses made, for until then the Israelites were burning incense to it. It was called Nehushtan
Romans 8:11 (NLT)
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
Our spiritual lives require the Holy Spirit to function properly.
We must encounter the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13-14 (NLT)
And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.”
1.) We must stay in the Word and do what it says.
James 1:22-24
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.”
2.) We must be continually moved by the Spirit.
Romans 12:11-12 (CSB)
Do not lack diligence in zeal; be fervent in the Spirit; serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.
Past obedience and past encounters with God are powerful, but they don’t carry us forever.
Philippians 3:14
“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
2 Kings 19:30-31 (CSB)
“The surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root downward and bear fruit upward. For a remnant will go out from Jerusalem, and survivors, from Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.”
God’s response to our dependence is always faithful.
1.) Surrender your life to Jesus.
2.) Get in the Word.
3.) Serve on behalf of the Kingdom.
