Matthew Trexler  . “Purpose of His Presence” . December 18, 2022

Matthew 1:21-23 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means “God with us”).

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

John 1:14 (LB) And Christ became a human being and lived here on earth among us and was full of loving forgiveness* and truth. And some of us have seen his glory*—the glory of the only Son of the heavenly Father!*

“The best of all God with us.” – John Wesley

Missing out because: We say we can’t feel His presence.

Missing out because: We are too busy to feel His presence.

Missing out because: We feel undeserving.

1.) His presence reassures me when I am lonely.

Psalm 139:7 I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!

Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path that leads to life;
your presence fills me with joy
and brings me pleasure forever.

Hebrews 1:9 You love justice and hate evil.
Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.”

2.) His presence guides me when I am lost.

Psalm 32:8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.

“We all end up somewhere but very few arrive at a place on purpose.”

John 10:10 (GNT)  The thief comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.

3.) His presence comforts me when I am afraid.

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Isaiah 41:10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

4.) His presence strengthens me when I am weak.

Exodus 33:14 (GNT) The Lord said, “I will go with you, and I will give you victory.”

Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
